VS Snorer
日本語は[read more]で。

It is a record of a Japanese girl fighting against a snorer.

I usually cant go to sleep easily even though I close my eyes and try to sleep in bed.
I dont know this is why I go to sleep easily on cars or trains.

On that night, I couldnt sleep either.
My roommate was fast asleep, coz I could hear her breathing.

"She is sleeping.....I have to sleep too......."

Her breathing sound was getting louder and louder.....

".....!!! Is she.......??!!"

She started to snore. Yes, she was fast asleep.

"Do not care about it Yoko!! u gotta wake up early tomorrow!! Sleep!!"

...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz
...zzz...zzz

...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...
zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz..

.zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...
zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz.

..zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...
zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz

"How can I sleep?!"

Ok, now I have to stop her snoring.

When my dad snores, I simply pinch his nose.

But I cant do it to her.

"Now what can I do?"

I came up with the idea that I make natural sound such as coughing or sneezing,
and wake her up a little bit.
I dont wake her up completely.
She might stop snoring if her sleep gets more shallow.

Coughing choughing

...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...
zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz..
.zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz
...zzz...zzz
...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...
zzz...zzz
...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz..
.zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz.
..zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz...zzz
...zzz...zzz
...zzz

No effect.

I tried to sneeze.

"................................."

Difficult. Forget about this idea.

I cant think of any other idea!!!

Suddenly, she rolled over.

.............................
......................................
...........................................
...................................................
..........................................................

Silence came back!!!!

I cant remeber after this, I think I just fell asleep.

I think I was like that for half an hour.

A story of "TETSUMAN"
日本語は[read more]で。

I used to think that people who play mahjong are really lazy, dull, and they cannot find any other joy in thier life.

But my guyfriends really like to play it, even my dad, or my brother.

Its kinda amazing that I have never tried to learn its rule until I get into university in such enviroment.

Mahjong is originally from China. They use 144 rictangular tiles and usually with 4 people. The origin of the word mahjong is from Chinese dialest "ma-tsiang" means "sparrows".

Japanese mahjong uses only 136 tiles though, and it is more like gambling while Chinese one is to compete how beautiful their combination of the tiles.

It is interesting that mahjong is originally from China, but in Japan, they play it in different rules.

Since I am in China now, I play Chinese mahjong with my Chinese friends. Even girls know how to play it. It is kinda guys' thing in Japan.

There is a Chinese American friend called AL, who really likes girls in mini skirts, and he taught me how to play it.

It was Friday night. None of us do not have special thing to do on the next day. ―――The beginning of a nightmare―――

19:00 Had dinner.(omu-rice)

20:00 Went to my Kaori's room to see how she is doing with her project paper.

21:00 Came back to my flat to do dishes and bring my computer to her room to watch movies that AL borrowed from the library.

23:00 Buddha's hands

0:00 She finally finished her paper.

0:30 In the gym in the common room, lying on the floor, startd to play mahjong.

2:00 Had 10 games AL kept losing. "The good thing is we are not playing for money"

4:00 All of us were hungry. "Its time to make Yoko cook something for us!"

4:01 I refused.

4:30 Poured hot water into my last cup noodle for AL.

5:00 Started again-AL was happy coz he had food. Akiko was half sleeping, Kaori still doesnt understand the rule, Yoko singing.

5:30 Killed 2 mothes.

7:00 Had 32 games AL 11 Yoko 11 Akiko 5 Kaori5.

7:05 One more game and AL won.

7:20 Byebye

I got up@ 1400 this morningafternoon. I have 1 exam, 2 presentations, 1 paper, 30 pages reading for next week.

"TETSUMAN" means playing mahjong whole night.

Half a year
日本語は[read more]で。

Its been half a year since I came to HK. It was so quick. It is not my first time to live abroad, so I was optimistic about my life in HK before I came here. New place, new people, new language. Everything was exciting to me, and I enjoyed and will enjoy life here.

I was reeeeeeeally homesick heavily though. I think it was October or November.I bothered sooooooooo many people. My family, friends in both HK and Japan.

I wasnt homesick that much when I lived in the US. Well, I think thats because I got family there.

I got older.....have to be responsible for my own behavior.

It means I have to finish writing paper tonight.......lol

Parade and Fireworks in TST
日本語は[read more]で。

Wow, happy new year again!! Hong Kong is now really crowded. They had international parade yesterday, and fireworks today. A lot of people....well, HK is a place which is always crowded, but these 2 days, TST(one of the towns in HK) had TOO MANY people.

Parade was really nice(Coz I dont have to do marching). We got Scottish bag pipes, Japanese Mikoshi,(portable shrine) Latin American samba, Spanish flamenco.....etc But all the things were performed by Chinese people. lol

But they had an African drums performed by real Africans. It was really cool. So cool that I forgot to take pics.

And fireworks today. It was drizzling, but we got really really great fireworks.

There was one really disgusting thing there though. There was a couple right next to me. I think they are about 40~50. As I already mentioned, the place has got TOO MANY people. They didnt care about others....They opened an umbrella. Yes it was drizzling, but u dont need an umbrella, besides, it was really crowded and people "at the very back" might not be able to see anything. And the guy is really short so that the umbrella could pork my eyes.

They did not care at all. They started hugging, and kissing(they are Chinese). It might be Japanese idea, but middle aged people should not hug or kiss in public. Japanese people think that they should have discretion. In Japan, people ususally dont kiss or hug in public. I thought that it is the same in HK, and only peope who are young enough to be stupid do such a thing in public......well, they were really annoying. I really wanted to kick them out.

But I didnt wanna cause any trouble (if I can speak fluent Cantonese, I might have told him to close it though). He closed it anyway, so it was "mei you wenti"(no problem).

Fireworks itself was really great.

Quiet i house
日本語は[read more]で。

I live in a dorm called "International House" now. One third should be locals, one third minlanders, and the rest is international students.

Usually, exchange students have a lot of fun in this dorm. Party every night. (sometimes annoying)

Now, it is really quiet. Tomorrow is chinese new year day, and we have big holiday now. about 10days-

Most of the locals and mainlanders went back to their home and the other exchange stundents are.....somewhere else. lol

My roommate is now in Shanghai. The other girls are also in somewhere else. Really quiet. I house has never been like this. A bit scarely...lol

I dont have any special plan for the new year. Im gonna cook with some other girls. Thats it.

Well, anyway,

Happy Chinese New Year to u all!!

11, Twin Towers
12, Basketball
13, Hibiscus
14, Taxies
15, "Udon"

11, KL has got world's tallest twin towers. It is 451.9 meters high, and they have sky bridge on the 41st floor. If u have chance to go up there, u can get an awsome view. The number of visiters is limited. The ticket counter opens at 8:30. Ticket itself is free. But we went there just to find a sign saying "sorry no more tickets, come again." I recommend u to go there really early in the morning.

P1020459.jpg

12, After the disappointment at twin towers, we enjoyed some shoping, and went to convention center. Guess what was going on there!!

P1020463.jpg

Basketball!! 3on3 competition!!

So cool!! If some of my friends in Japan were here, they would be gone crazy. I dont think they dont have this kinda event in Tokyo. But it seems like for middle school kids. Still nice though!

13, Hibiscus is their national flower. They have a really nice hibiscus and orchid garden. I was the one who was insisting to go there. But the weather.....took all my energy. It was 30 celcius. I didnt wear any hat. The garden was really beautiful though. I was just...dying....

P1020476.jpg

14, Now the time to go back to HK!! We called a taxi at the hotel. From the airport to the hotel, it cost RM160, but it was actually 75. Damn!! We were cheated at the airport!! 4 Japanese girls, it was relly easy for them to cheat....damn it!!! Be careful!!

15, On the airplane, we watched a Japanese movie, "Udon". It was pretty good movie. I really wanna eat udon now. Even now, I wanns eat udon....

Poeple in Malaysia are really nice. They all speak English and Putonghua or Cantonese. All the taxi drivers showed us famous buildings on the way. Winter never comes to Malaysia. If u really dont like winter, u should live in Malaysia.

It is really interesting that all the religions are mixed. For example, Church, Temple, and Mosque are built in a small area.
Especially, this year is their 50 years anniversary of independence. The city is really clean. It is not like Ho Chi Minh,Guan Zhou, or even Tokyo. It is really interesting place to visit!!

6, Pierced Earring-holic.
7, Miss Tokyo.
8, The robe.
9, Jacuzzi
10, "Somebody took my friend's bag."

6, Koala has got pierced ears in Taiwan 2 month ago. She is really fond of pierced earring. Every time we go shopping together, she stops at the accessory stores. In Malaysia, too. Every time she finds that kinda store, she spends 10 minutes at least. I always yell at her when she does it.(doesnt work though) She finally had a dream about looking at pierced earrings but being afraid of me.

7, We took a tour for Malakka. Its an old city, just like Macau. Thay have a ruin of a church, a museum of independence, China town. We didnt expect to have Chinese dishes for lunch.....but it was included in the tour. Well, people in Malakka could tell that I am Japanese. People in Chang Mai asked me why I speak fluent Japanese. lol Malaysian people were so nice that they said "good bye Miss Tokyo!" to us. Im glad they didnt say that Miss Ulan Bator.

P1020390.jpg

P1020429.jpg

8, In Islamic culture, women are not supposed to show thier skin. To look around mosques, women have to wear long robes. For Akiko and Kaori, it was just right size, but for Hiromi and me...we got some problems. U can tell from the picture.

20070214122114.jpg

9, After we came back from Malakka, we went to the spa in the hotel.

"Nude Jacuzzi is strictly prohibited"

............We ignored this sign. lol

10, It is really nice to be an adult. We can enjoy night life in foreign countries. We have found a nice club. I forgot the name though. But accidents happen all the time. Gosh, somebody took Akiko's bag!!! She had wallet, passport, cellphone...everything in!!

"It should be around here!! We'll help ya!!"
"I think u should make a report!!"

Malaysian people are really nice!!

I went to make a report.

"Excuse me, somebody took my friend's bag. It was this big, light pink, no brand, but shes got everything in. Can u report it to ur boss?"

The guy was saying something in Malay and another guy came down.

"What is wrong, miss?"

"Somebody took my(repeat)"

Other customers worried about it too.

"What's wrong?"

"Somebody(repeat)"

Suddenly, " Yoko!! I found it!!"

What?! Where was it?! We looked for the bag for half an hour. Suddenly popped up?

Koala"Ah~ it was me!! I thought it is my bag. I couldnt tell coz its so dark!! Ah I used ur napkin sorry Akiko~ haha~"

Koala took her bag to go to bathroom.

Fu*ck the Koala.

1, Cheese cake and chocolate cake
2, "Yuko Abann"
3, I cant tell anything except "spicy"
4, "Macau tower"
5, The way to the hotel

1, I was dreaming on the plane. The desserts were Cheese cake and chocolate cake. I chose chocolate and Koala chose cheese. I shouted that "Koala!! Ur sauce is on my shirt!! damn it!!" I even didnt know I was dreaming. It was so real.

2, When we checked in, one of the staff told us that Abe means brother in Malay. The original word is Abann, but they say Abe for short. "Wow, Yoko the brother!!" (Abe means Apes in Danish.)
When I got the key, my name was on the receipt.

"Yuko Abe"

.........Hi, my name is Yuko Abann in Malaysia.

3, We tried McDonAld's. They had Kebab.

  HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldnt tell anything except spicy.......

P1020313.jpg

4, The first place we went was KL tower. It is 421 KM high. They had navigation system in all languages. I listened to Japanese one, but it was in "Malaysian Japanese". I should have chosen English(or Putonghua) one. When we decided to go there, I thought I was saying KL tower, but actually, I was saying Macau tower....I made the other girls confused.

P1020318.jpg

5, After "KL" tower, we went to Indian town, Merdeka Square ( it is the place that Malaysian leaders decalared their independence from Britain), and CentralMarket. At the Square, the sunset, and Koran from the mosque. 50 years, ago, at that place, Malaysian people got freedom......solemn
We went back to the hotel, and Akiko and me had to withdraw money. We asked so many people where the ATM is, and everybody told us different things. Finally found one, but then, we couldnt find the way back. I think we were wandering for one hour just to withsraw money.

Welcome Spring!
日本語は[read more]で。

Chinese people celebrate new year which based on luna calender.
The new year day is on 18th of Febrary. A lot of people go back to their home and spend hoplidays with their family. (Children can get money from adults.)

Here in HK, they also celebrate the new year. But the idea is not familiar to the exchange students, resident union of my hostel had a new year party for the foreign students.

They got quiz,(if u get a correct answer,u can get a minibus coupon 10 "cents" discounted!!) buffet, and Chinese calligraphy. For most of the exchange students, it is new thing but not for the Japanese people. (Japanese elementary schools have calligraphy class!!)

Its been ages last time I have done that. I tried to write some words that related to the new year, like "happy new year!" "spring has come".

I wrote "Welcome spring" so that I can put it on the door of our room.

My character writing is pretty good,

unless I made an extra stroke for the "welcome" part.....

"Welcome" should be

But the caharacter I wrote is like this....

P1020293.jpg

Compare with Akiko's(right). Koari's(middle) is out of question.

Japanese people should be good at character writing, but I guess not me.... haha.
