My parents are foreigners.
日本語は[read more]から。

Im taking Putonghua(Mandarin) classes since last semester and i dont care taht people say that my Putonghua is uselss. Ive been studying it almost 2 yrs!

Im "kinda" Putonghua speaker.

Well, now Im in intermediate 1 level. It is a lot more tough than elementary courses.

Im not going to write about my work. In my class, there are two weird people. One is from Australia and the other is from the States.

The Australian guy keeps saying "I wanna die". In the class, we have to make groups of two and practice role playing in Mandarin. My partner was him and after we finish practicing, we chatted a bit. He said "I wanna die" suddenly. He doesnt stop saying it. I dont know much about him so there might be things that make him depressed. But He is always laughing and making fun of people (especially Chinese people).
I was like, "why dont u?"(didnt say it though!)

The American guy is actually an Asian American. His parents are from Taiwan. But his level of speaking is about the same or less than mine.
We had to make a speech about hobbies. He said that he likes traveling a lot.

"My parents are foreigners so I can travel a lot."

I felt its a bit strange coz it is my first time to hear people say that his parents are foreigners. Well, I have heard that people say "my parents are from...." but not "foreigners". Thx for the development of technology, now the world is getting smaller and smaller, people can move other places easily, so it might be possible that his parents are foreigner to him. But I feel like he looks down on his parents because they are " foreigners"
Mmmm.........(This is just how I felt. Its not true that he really looks down on his parents.)

Today, Yoko....

tried to get up @ 9:00, but gave up, finally got up @ 10:00,

did laundry,

paid hostel fee...(about HKD4000),

saw police officers holding real shotguns and @ the bank and got excited,

has been talked by a lady in Cantonese,

said "sorry I dont speak Cantonese",

has been talked in Mandarin by the same lady,

said "Im really sorry ma'am, my Mandarin is not good enough to catch what u r saying, can u speak English?",

saw the lady giving up to ask some questions,

thought that "I said sorry in English but how come that lady thought I speak Mandarin??"

remembered someone said Hong Kong people have bigger nose than Japanese, but she knows her nose is small, so wondered why people always speak Cantonese to her,

thought that should study Mandarin harder anyway,

then went to IASP office and found that there was a mistake with registration,

went to the office of Japanese Studies to complain,

did some grocery shopping,

came back to the hostel and moved all the cooking materials to the room from the kitchen,

coz someone keeps stealing stuff,

tried to study but decided to update the blog first,

is gonna study after updating this blog,

is gonna cook dinner for some friends,

is gonna play mahjong and drink beer.

Cooking with HK girls
日本語は[read more]で。

This university has "Japanese Society". They introduce Japanese culture to HK people. And tonite, they have some kinda festival. They wanted to sell Japanese food and wanted me to teach them how to make Korokke, Japense style deep fried potato. Basically, u mash potatos and chop onions mix them together. Then put flour, egg, and bread crabm. Finally deep fry them.

Well, I asked one of the HK girls to chop onions coz I didnt wanna cry. I showed how small they should be.

It is a mistake to ask a HK girl to help me with cooking.

I regret.

For korokke, onions should be really small.

Onions she chopped were ten times bigger than mine. But I know that she did her best.

She is really cute. She has just started her university year. She is going to Japan for a year this October. She was really excited to practice her Japanese and even English on me. ......Yes, she is a cute girl........

She just doesnt know how to cook...........

I had to cry to make onions smaller.

Well, finally, we made korokke. They were good.(Coz I made them!)

"Thx Yoko!! We are gonna cook Chinese dishes next time for u!"

"Oh no prob. ..........But do u know how to cook Chinese dishes?"

"Ummm, no. I should learn how!(smile)"

"Ha ha.......(For the God's sake, dont cook anything for me!)"

On the day we made korokke together, I was really busy so I didnt have anything to eat.

Exhausted.

Another Special Administrative Region
日本語は[read more]で。

Most of my friends have visited there....but I, finally got the cahnce to go there.

Macau-

Just one hour from Kowloon by ferry, there's a town that Chinese and European culture have been mixed.

It's true that Hong Kong is a place that the West meets the East. But, in my opinion, HK is more China than Macau.

Macau has got more churches than temples. U might feel that U are not in China in some places in Macau.

I have a friend visiting me from Beijing, and he wanted to go to Macau, so this is why I got chance to visit there.

It has been 6 years since we got to know each other. I went to the US, and he went to Canada through the same organization for high school students to go abroad.

It is kinda amazing that we are still friends and visit Macau together.

P1020094.jpg

This is the friend of mine from Beijing.

Anyway, I have heard that there is nothing much to see in Macau except the ruins of St.Paul's, (the wall), so I did not expect anything special or exciting there- but, the city itself is really interestng.

P1020108.jpg

This is the wall.

As I already mentioned, Macau is the city that Chinese and European cultures have been mixed. The buildings are in European style so that u dont feel like u r in Asia, but if u just go to the small street, u find China.

P1020091.jpg

This is really European, but.....

P1020081.jpg

Theres China as well.

My friend has got really excited about that, so he walked too fast....ha ha it is my fault that I didnt wear tennis shoes, but still....he walked too fast. Poor my feet!

He also has got excited about the people in Macau. Since he lives
in Beijing, he has to survive among the strong Chinese people. He told me that in Beijing, cars never stop for the pedestrians. In Macau, cars stopped for us. He was so impressed.

The most funny thing happened at dinner time. We did not tell each other what we were gonna have, so we both ordered risotto. The reason why this happened is that we just pointed the menu to order. Damn it.....and he does not eat as much as me, so I kinda had to finish those. Well, it was really good, but its really hard to finish two bowls of rissoto....

Anyway, we found that Macau is really interesting place even though we did not have enough time to do gamble. Maybe next time....

Back in HK
日本語は[read more]から。

Now Im back in HK, in my room on the campus. I spent 3 weeks in Japan, with my family and friends. Before the break, I thought it is a long break, but its not anymore! lol The school starts on Monday, and I do not know which classrooms to go yet. The Christmasn and the new year with my family was really nice. Eat and sleep....we were like pigs. No wonder I put some weight on.

I took a taxi to go back to the school, When it came to the place which is really familiar to me, I was kinda relieved. I feel like everything in Japan was a dream now. But when I was in Japan, I felt just the opposite.

Anyway, the break is over! I have to concentrate on studying!....I'll try!!

Family party
日本語は「続きを読む」で。

My father has a younger sister(whose name is Hiroko), and she has 2 children. This means that I have 2 cousins. (My mom has a younger brother and he also has 2 kids, so I actually have 4 cousins.) They visited my home to say happy new year to my grandpa. We had lunch together at my house. My house has been reformed, so it was also a party for the new house.

I was really surprised that my little cousins are already 17 and 14 years old. When I was highschool, they were so....kids, I mean, they are still little babies for me. Time flies! Now they have their opinions and they enjoy their school life. Its been a while since the last time I talked to them so it was a good opportunity to share my stories in HK and their stories at their schools. The younger cousin had a party last night at his friend's house, and he came back at three in the morning. He is only 14!! I cannot beleive his parents let him do such a thing. My dad is so strict that I couldnt go out after six when I was 14. Well, I think this is because I am girl and he is a guy. Hmmmm....not fair, but well, after I got into the university, I do the same as him, so its ok.

Anyway, it was fun to talk to them. My aunt and uncle were also surprised coz Im gonna be 22 this year. Im still a little baby for them. lol

Good start of 2007! Wish u all have a great year!
